10 Things NOT to Do After You’re Engaged
Popping the big question is, without any kind of doubt, the kind of event you will remember forever. And while the beginning of your engagement also means that you should start thinking of the Big Day too, there are certain things you should NOT do right away. What are these things? Read on and find out more.
Stressing out. You will most likely not get married one week from now. If you are like most couples, you will allow at least one year between the engagement and the wedding – and that’s plenty of time to plan everything out.
Choosing bridesmaids. You don’t have to decide on your bridal party right away. Take your time because this is a very important decision.
Buying the first wedding dress that comes your way. Don’t rush into the first bridal boutique and buy the first dress you see. Take your time, shop around and buy that dress that truly feels like “the one”.
Avoiding to make a guest list. This is actually the first step in planning a wedding so don’t even think of going to the “battle” without this “weapon”.
Postponing choosing the venue. If making the guest list is the first step, choosing the venue is very frequently the second – and for good reasons too. Don’t postpone this moment and start searching for a place as soon as you are ready to start planning your wedding.
Do not make any kind of big changes in your schedule. This includes buying a puppy, changing your job and other similar things that will completely ruin your schedule. Your wedding planning will most likely take a lot of time – make sure you have some to spare!
Do not move. Try not to move house during the engagement period because that would mean overlapping two of life’s most stressful events: moving and getting married.
When you finally buy a wedding dress, stop there. Unless you want to wear more than one dress at your wedding, stop shopping for wedding gowns once you already have one. It will only give you second thoughts
Avoid over-spending on anything. Weddings are quite expensive alone, not to mention when they are “paired” with other types of “over-spending”. That designer pair of shoes you plan on wearing after the wedding day? It can wait.
Don’t ignore the small things. OK, choosing a venue, the invitations, the food, the dress – these are the really big and important things related to your wedding. But the small things matter too. The DJ’s playlist, the instructions for your photographer, the wedding vows – all these things can make a huge difference.
Don’t forget to have fun. Really, this is a wedding and, by definition, it is supposed to be a happy event in your life. Have fun with the engagement period and with planning for the Big Day!
